Continuing education

Provider information

What are the continuing education requirements for recommending medical providers?

Recommending medical providers are required to complete 4 hours of any continuing education that focuses on medical cannabis. This can include the examples provided below, or any other formal or informal continuing education that you may find. Some other options include medical cannabis webinars and medical cannabis podcasts.

What are the continuing education requirements for pharmacy medical providers?

Pharmacy medical providers are required to take 4 hours of formal continuing education from an institute of higher education, an approved accredited body as defined in R383-6-3 (ACCME, ACPE, AAPA, or AANP), or the Center for Medical Cannabis (CMC). This can include the examples below that meet the requirements or any other continuing education that you may find that meets the requirements.

At least 30 minutes of the required time must be dedicated to Utah medical cannabis law. You can take a free course from the CMC to count toward this requirement. If you do not take the CMC course, save a copy of your course syllabus that demonstrates Utah law is discussed in the course you take. The CMC may perform audits and request the syllabus at that time.
