    What is a pharmacy medical provider (PMP)?

    A pharmacy medical provider (PMP) is a licensed pharmacist or a physician who works at a Utah medical cannabis pharmacy. They must register as a PMP with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). 

    PMPs educate patients on medical cannabis products, including the types and amounts to use. They also review every medical cannabis purchase. PMPs use the electronic verification system (EVS) to  enter medical cannabis certifications from  recommending medical providers (RMPs), add dosing guidelines, and more.

    How to register as a pharmacy medical provider (PMP) in the electronic verification system (EVS)

    To register in the EVS, you must be employed by a Utah medical cannabis pharmacy, enter your DOPL number, and confirm that you’ve completed your 4 hours of DHHS approved continuing education.

  1. Go to the EVS.

    Click the "Log in" button on the EVS.

    You'll sign in to UtahID before creating an EVS account.

    New users: Follow the steps at UtahID to create your UtahID account.

  2. Complete 4 hours of DHHS approved continuing education on medical cannabis.

    You can complete any of the following continuing education that focuses on medical cannabis:

    1. Create an EVS account.

       Look at the pictures under the “visual help” heading to see how to create an account in the EVS.

      Estimated timeline: 5 minutes
    2. Submit your PMP application in the EVS.

      Look at the pictures under the “visual help” heading to see how to fill out and submit your application in the EVS. .

      Estimated timeline: 10 minutes
    3. Pay your PMP registration fee.

      You’ll get an email from [email protected]  with instructions to pay your PMP registration fee after you submit your application.

      Estimated timeline: 5 minutes
    4. Your PMP registration will last for 2 years.

      You can renew your registration in the EVS after 2 years.
