Background
The DHHS Center for Medical Cannabis conducted a survey of participants in the state’s medical cannabis program. The purpose of the survey was to get feedback regarding the state’s medical cannabis market in terms of product access, availability, variety, and quality.
- This market analysis was conducted through a REDCAP survey.
- It was sent to over 110,000 medical cannabis stakeholders that included patients, medical providers, advocates, and medical cannabis pharmacy representatives.
- Over 9,000 responses were received, which is about an 8% response rate. This estimation is conservative because the response rate calculation included stakeholders with undeliverable emails.
At this time, we are highlighting the patient responses we received.
About the survey
The survey had 5 questions that asked about the following topics:
- The availability of medical cannabis products at medical cannabis pharmacies.
- The quality of medical cannabis products at medical cannabis pharmacies.
- The variety of medical cannabis products at medical cannabis pharmacies.
- Access to medical cannabis pharmacies and medical cannabis home delivery services.
- The need to alter products in order to get a lower dose of medical cannabis than what is available.

- 61% of patients agreed that medical cannabis pharmacies in Utah consistently have the products they need.
- 78% of patients agreed that products available from medical cannabis pharmacies in Utah are good quality.
- 57% of patients agreed that medical cannabis pharmacies in Utah have a good variety of products available.
- 72% of patients disagreed that they have to alter products in order to get the medical cannabis dose that they need
- 68% of patients agreed that they are happy with their current access to medical cannabis pharmacies and medical cannabis home delivery services.
